[MacGLQuake] Non-GL macquake

Hello!
As far as I know the source for software-rendering quake is not not out for
mac (I think westlake hasn't released any code).
My question is this: assuming that at some point in the future Westlake
Interactive (or whoever owns the rights to the source of MacQuake) decides
to release it as Id Software did, how hard would it be to incorporate all
the bugfixes made to the various GLquakes around and incorporate them into
the sofware-rendering version of quake?
It seems that most, if not all, development projects based on the quake1
source are only focused on OpenGL versions. Being somewhat "OpenGL-Hardware
impaired" (I have no 3D-card :), I cannot use any of them, not even on a pc.
What are the hardware requirements of MacGL Quake? I have a beige G3 at
home, but I only have 4MB of Video RAM. Regular Quake runs excellent, but
only in software rendering mode. Do I need to have a 3D card or is it enough
to increase my VRAM to 6 Mb?
Thanks for any input.
