The iVDR-AVHD is a single board solution for any HDTV lacking the ability to record and play on an
"Information Versatile Disk for Removable usage" better known as "iVDR".
The iVDR system allows removable drives to be used by the end user to create large libraries of video
content.
The iVDR-AVHD is powered by Shin-Digita's Total Solution, a combination of a high performance custom
HD video chip and state-of-the-art firmware that provides a rich AV feature set and also allows the
OEM to realize a quality product with a very short development cycle. A single circuit board tucks
neatly into a flat panel or DLP DTV and requires only 5 volts for power. The High Speed Data Ports
connect to the tuner and decoder using I2C communication to control the
MPEG transport stream.
The iVDR-AVHD interacts with the end user by appearing as an attached AV device on the screen menu
of the DTV. Using the DTV's remote control the end user is able to control the iVDR-AVHD through the
television's remote control using industry standard AV commands. Through the TV's remote control,
recording, playback and movement of recorded material are possible. Trick play controls such as pause
play, fast forward and fast reverse at multiple speeds are possible.
Safe guarding of recorded material starts in the iVDR-AVHD through the use of a single-chip high
security AV content manager. Using DTCP 5C encryption methodology, the AVPC communicates with the
digital television to receive rotating key encrypted material from the television's tuner via the
IEEE-1394 bus. The stream is recorded to the removable iVDR hard drive in encrypted form allowing
the accumulation of a disc library that can only be played on the original iVDR-AVHD. Playback of
the stream to the TV is performed with the same methodology ensuring that recorded content is always
safe. The AV Move command (including Japan's "Dubbing-10" technology) is available to move recorded
content with copy rights to other devices like Blu-Ray recorders.
